Village Club Member Spotlight – Did you know?
"All of us had careers before accepting the ultimate executive position: full time wife and mother. Many of us toy with the notion of returning to work, some of us have taken steps toward returning to work, and CONGRATULATIONS to CARRIE BUCHWALD who just has returned to work! After a 7 year absence from working in a recruiting and management position, Carrie was recently named Account Manager for the Corporate Education Group at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
Ironically, Carrie found the position after attending a 'relaunch' conference hosted by the School. In addition to attending this conference, Carrie utilized a variety of career services available to all of us and hit upon several important insights. For example, who you were before at work, is not who you are now, or who you still want to be. So, it is more important to find the right company, than it is to find a specific position. If you like where you are working, you will like what you are doing, especially over time as you mold your new position to fit your favorite skill set.
Most importantly, no matter how long you have been out of the work force or how old you are, if you search properly, the job you want is out there waiting for you. If you have specific questions about your own job search, please contact Carrie at carriebuchwald@aol.com. If you are interested in a group discussion led by Carrie, please contact Julia Foster at fostergimbel@comcast.net. Finally, check out the website irelaunch.com where Carrie is now featured."
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Where is this year going? It’s hard to believe that the holidays are already here!
As 2008 comes to an end, please make sure to mark your calendars for Thursday, December 18 as Nancy Jarrett hosts the Village Club’s Annual Holiday Open House. It will be a great time relax and unwind with friends during the busy holiday season.
Planning is underway for 2009 and we are excited about what we have to offer. The highlight will be our annual philanthropic event on Saturday, February 7 at Pinstripes in
And, don’t forget to check out our website as we are always making changes and improvements -- www.villagecluboflincolnshire.com.
Here’s wishing you a happy holiday season! I look forward to celebrating with you on the 18th!
Best wishes,

Activity Spotlight Daytime Gourmet
Daytime Gourmet began this year with an appetizer extravaganza. Although all the recipes were winners, two recipes were particularly cocktail party friendly. So, if you are tired of trying to balance your drink, your purse, your conversation, your cocktail napkin, your three bite appetizer and your dignity, try the following recipes. Because they are easy to make and may be made ahead of time, they are great additions to the hectic schedule of holiday entertaining. Also, they taste great. Bon Appetit!
Goat Cheese, Grape and Pistachio Truffles
1-1/2 pounds pistachio nuts* shelled, chopped rough (about 1 cup) ( *You may substitute your favorite nuts—walnut, hazelnuts, almonds, pecans...)
8 ounces goat cheese, room temperature
24 seedless, red grapes, stems removed, wiped clean
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spread nuts on an ungreased baking sheet and toast in the oven for 7 to 9 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
In blender or food processor, process nuts until finely chopped.
Put one 1/2 tablespoon of goat cheese in the palm of one hand and in it roll a grape, shaping the mixture around the grape to coat. Repeat
the process with remaining grapes and chill on a sheet pan for 15 minutes.
Roll the cheese-coated grapes in the nut mixture to cover completely and chill for 30 minutes or until coating is firm. Can be made 1 day ahead.
This is fun to make with your kids. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
Rosemary and Spice Nuts
2-1/2 cups (10 oz) mixed raw nuts*
2 tablespoons olive oil
1-1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
1 tablespoon sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
*For the mixed nuts, choose your favorites; or pecans, walnuts and peanuts. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Place the nuts in a bowl. Pour the oil into a small, heavy saucepan and place over medium-low heat until warm. Add the rosemary and stir until the mixture is aromatic, about 1 minute. Pour the flavored oil over the nuts. Add the sugar, cumin, salt, black pepper and cayenne and stir to coat evenly. Transfer the nuts to a baking pan.
Bake, stirring occasionally, until the nuts are toasted, about 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Makes about 2-1/2 cups. You can double this recipe and serve it in beautiful crystal and ceramic bowls spread around the party area. I don't know if the ingredients would react to silver bowls.

New Word of Mouth Blog on the Village Club website!
What do a Groomer, Plumber and a Dentist have in common?
….they are all part of the Village Club's new "Word of Mouth" blog topics. The Village Club has dedicated a portion of the website to host a community blog as a place to recommend many different types of services. From handymen, painters, roofers, doctors and more, there are many to see and areas for you to post your own questions.
Please take time to visit http://www.villagecluboflincolnshire.com and click on the "Word of Mouth” tab to share the hairstylist who makes you gorgeous, the doctor who is always on time, the electrician who comes during an emergency, the interior designer who makes your house look like it should be in a magazine, the vet who makes house calls, the... Fall Luncheon was a Big Success – Thank you!
The Fall Luncheon and shopping boutique was a huge success. We had our best turn out yet with 75 members and guests in attendance. The mystique of The Forge Club proved to be an excellent draw and an excellent venue. For an added kick, in the spirit of “The Ladies who Lunch”, several ladies arrived donning Jackie O garb hats and all. We had a great mix of vendors offering a fun and diverse shopping experience. In total 10 lucky people went home with a beautiful raffle prize, each donated by one of our vendors.
The IFSA spokesperson who attended the event spoke of the children who attend the burn camp. Hearing their stories can make us feel good about the work that we do and the money we donate to support this significant cause. That said, our totals for the raffle sale and vendor donations were $1300.00. In a year of tough economic times, IFSA was so appreciative of our efforts. Please help us build on this success with the upcoming Philanthropy fundraiser.
Thanks again to all that attended and a special thanks to our vendors for their generous donations. We hope you enjoyed your day!
